Evans Concrete, the Derbyshire-based manufacturer of bespoke pre-cast concrete, has secured a £230,000 contract for work on the M1 widening programme.
Evans will be designing and manufacturing pre-cast bridge abutment panels for two new bridges at Junction 10 required as part of the M1 Junction 6A-10 Widening Project for the Highways Agency. The Evans Concrete order has been awarded by the Joint Venture contractor, Balfour Beatty Skanska.
The existing bridges across the motorway have already been demolished and two new bridges have been erected. The abutment panels, which will be installed while the traffic flow is controlled, will be up to 6 ½ meters high, 1.2 metres wide and weigh 3 ½ tonnes.
Garry McBride, chairman of Evans Concrete, said: “This new contract is testament to the hard work of the Evans team and shows that we can compete on a national level. It will also be a pleasure to work with Balfour Beatty again, having successfully completed a contract with them in the past for work on the M25 widening scheme.”
