Thu 1st March 07

Bespoke precast concrete specialist, Evans Concrete, has secured one of its largest ever contracts for work on Leicester’s £350m Shires development.

Derbyshire-based Evans will be carrying out the design, manufacture and installation of reconstructed stone cladding panels, balcony edging units and column pilaster units to four blocks of the new shopping complex.

The £900,000 contract has been awarded by construction firm Sir Robert McAlpine and also includes insulation, vapour barriers, cavity trays and fire stops.

Work will begin on site in May, with blocks 3a, 3b and 5 running simultaneously, and the project is due for completion in March 2008.

Garry McBride, chairman of Evans Concrete, said: “This contract win is the culmination of three months hard work from the commercial team at Evans and we are pleased to be contributing to the regeneration of our region.  We’re also delighted to be working with Sir Robert McAlpine on this project, as it maintains our successful ongoing relationship.”

Evans Concrete has previously worked with Sir Robert McAlpine on Aberdeen’s Marine Operations Centre and the O2 leisure development in Greenwich.

Leicester’s new Shires Shopping Centre will provide more than double the existing retail space and will be anchored by a 22,000m2, four-storey John Lewis department store, 8 flagship stores and an additional 40 new units.
