Ripley based company Evans Concrete, who specialise in the design, manufacture and installation of bespoke precast concrete, have acquired a new site for their operations at Pye Bridge near Alfreton with funding from Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank, part of the Santander Group.
The 11.5 acre site was formerly owned by Simplex Piling and includes a 35,000 sq ft production space complete with overhead gantry crane covering the whole area. Previously used as a concrete factory, it will be used by Evans to manufacture a wide range of bespoke precast concrete structures for various clients.
Combined with Evans other site at Peasehill Road in Ripley, the company now has 15 acres of production and storage facilities. At the same time Tarmac has built a ready mix concrete facility on the Pye Bridge site which will service Evans as well as other clients.
Originally, upon the acquisition of the new site, Evans had planned to close down its operations on Peasehill Road and move everything to the new site however due to the increase in demand for their products and services, both facilities will operate for the foreseeable future.
The company has recently been awarded a number of prestigious contracts throughout the country for such clients as Network Rail, Balfour Beattie, Westfield and the Glasgow Museum of Transport. As a result, Evans has recruited additional members of staff to handle the increased work load. It now employs a total of 70 people, which represents an increase of 25% over the previous year, and plans to continue to recruit. At the same time, turnover looks set to reach £7m.
Evans has also made some promotions and appointments at a senior level with Garry Marrow becoming finance director and Steve Towndrow becoming operations director. In addition Alan Topping has joined in a non executive capacity.
“At a time when there is so much bad news around about the construction industry, it’s great to be able to report some good news for a change,” said Garry McBride, chairman of Evans Concrete. “We are the busiest we have ever been and see this continuing for the foreseeable future so we should be able to create more jobs which is excellent for the local community. I attribute this to the bespoke and specialist nature of what we do and also to ensuring that we provide a quality service and product to a broad and varied customer base.”
Sarah Bryant of Alliance & Leicester Commercial Bank’s Leicester Business Centre added: “Evans Concrete is a successful, growing business and the acquisition of the Pye Bridge site is a great boost for the firm and the local economy. They have secured some important contracts and the new appointments in the senior team will only serve to strengthen the business further. This is an exciting time for Evans Concrete and we are thrilled to be able to lend our support.”
