Czech Embassy (RIBA Award in 1971)

“Evans Concrete was formed in 1925 and originally manufactured cow standings and water troughs for agriculture.”

Growth
As the business expanded, the company became nationally recognised for the production of high quality exposed aggregate and reconstructed stone products. For example, in 1971 the Czechoslovak Embassy was awarded a RIBA Architecture Award, where the jurors accompanied their decision with the following comment: “Unlike so many examples of precast concrete buildings which are weathering badly, this one is a refined example of its kind, skillfully detailed, technically and aesthetically.”

Expansion
Current Chairman, Garry McBride, took over the business in 1998 and Evans has since expanded its services; now offering the design, supply and installation of a wide range of bespoke precast concrete products.

Family Spirit
A strong sense of family and community is still retained at Evans and a number of employees have worked at the company in excess of 45 years, with a Finishing Supervisor currently working in his 51st year of continuous service.

Tradition & Innovation
Along with Evans’ innovative developments in the design and manufacture of bespoke precast concrete, many old traditions of making and finishing high quality concrete are still evident in the factory today, ensuring the long-standing quality and durability of all their products.
